Business Coaching and Consultancy for Business Owners

Running a business can be a lonely job. You may have a capable management team and trusted professional advisers, but it isn’t always easy to find someone independent with whom you can discuss the decisions, problems and opportunities that sit across the whole business.

I provide experienced, straightforward advice to owners of established businesses. Sometimes that means challenging your thinking, sometimes helping you work through a specific problem, and sometimes simply giving you a fresh perspective before you make an important decision.

I don’t use a formulaic coaching programme or arrive with a predetermined answer. We concentrate on what is actually happening in your business and what will make a worthwhile difference.

Ways We Can Work Together

Ongoing business advice and support

Most of my work involves an ongoing relationship with a business owner, usually with regular meetings supported by conversations between meetings as required.

This gives us enough continuity to understand the business properly, keep important issues moving and deal with new challenges as they arise. Meetings can involve you alone or include members of your management team where that would be useful.

There is no standard programme. The work develops around the needs of you and your business.

One-off business consultations

Not every situation requires an ongoing relationship. You may want an experienced independent view on a particular decision, problem or opportunity.

This might include:

  • Considering an acquisition or significant investment
  • Resolving a management or organisational problem
  • Reviewing business performance or profitability
  • Preparing for a major change
  • Working through a decision you don’t want to make alone

If the issue can be dealt with through a focused piece of work, I’ll say so.

Who I Work Best With

I work best with owners of established businesses who are open about what is happening, prepared to have their thinking challenged and willing to act when a decision has been made.

You don’t need to have everything neatly organised before speaking to me. In fact, the reason for getting in touch may be that the business feels stuck, overly dependent on you or simply more complicated than it should be.

What matters is that there is a genuine issue to address and that we both feel we could work well together.

I mainly work with businesses in and around Cambridge, Newmarket, Bury St Edmunds, Ely and Haverhill, although location is less important where the relationship is particularly well suited.

Getting Started

The first step is a brief enquiry outlining your business and what you would like help with. If it appears that I may be useful, we can arrange an initial conversation without charge.

That conversation is an opportunity for us to discuss what is happening, what you want to achieve and whether I am the right person to help. There is no sales presentation and no obligation to proceed.

My fees reflect the experience and involvement I bring and are comparable with those of other experienced professional advisers. I will always explain the likely cost and way of working before you make any commitment.

Would an Independent Perspective Help?

If you have a business decision, problem or opportunity that would benefit from an experienced and straightforward outside view, tell me a little about it.
