Developing a business can be hard work and involve major challenges. I know because I’ve been there! My clients generally run good, profitable businesses, but realise they could be a whole lot better. So, at that stage they made a conscious decision to introduce a third-party perspective.
I’ve over 20 years’ experience in buying, developing and selling businesses.
This has provided me with essential grounding as a Business Consultant, Business Coach and Advisor, whether in Cambridge or further afield. It means I don’t just rely on idealistic theory, because I’ve actually been there and done it. Whilst the industry has grown enormously over the past decade, the majority of Business Consultants and Business Coaches out there cannot say the same. It is this experience that I draw on for my clients.
Imagine having an experienced third-party confidant to challenge your habits and thinking. Then contributing to your organisation with an unbiased, independent and honest view. It brings huge value. Frequently, implementing simple tweaks that you haven’t thought of (or perhaps haven’t been disciplined enough to implement!) will result in increased efficiency and profitability. As a Business Consultant I tend to see the same issues again and again.
Good businesses must have robust foundations, defined systems and a motivated team in place. All three require strong leadership and management.
Since starting my career as a Business Consultant most challenges I’ve seen would fall under 4 key drivers. Finance, Team, Sales & Operations. The consequence of inconsistent management and leadership is a team with little direction and lacking engagement. This will likely result in frustration and conflict – the outcome of which may see profits and customer retention sliding. Are you proactive in sales or just continously waiting for the phone to ring? Systems may be broken (or non-existent!), resulting in mistakes which can lead to bad feeling. Delivery may be inconsistent leading to customers feeling unimpressed. Inevitably this will all be holding you back and eventually may cause something to snap. Because of this, over two thirds of businesses cease trading within their first 10 years. And we don’t want this to be you!
